Women's and Gender Studies Major

Tell us about your current work (paid or unpaid!)
I'm currently a Video Game Producer working at a Sony-owned studio called Sucker Punch Productions. I've been working in the Games industry for about 5 years now & have been credited on games such as Minecraft & Forza Motorsport 8.

How has your Women's and Gender Studies experience shaped your life and work post-graduation?
My degree in Women’s Studies helped me unlearn toxicity that was ingrained in me by society & made a significant impact on my own perspective of the world. Most importantly, I learned to never become complacent & to recognize that I’ve always got room to grow. I continue to apply those learnings throughout my life post-graduation & specifically within my own career. I work in an industry infamous for toxicity towards women & other historically marginalized groups. It's come a long way in the last decade, but there's still room for growth & I'm constantly reminding folks in the industry that we're not done yet. Diversity, equity, & inclusion in games is my passion. I strive every day to make playing & developing games an awesome experience for everyone!

What are your favorite memories from your time in Women's and Gender Studies at UGA? Courses, professors, events?
Gender & Popular Culture was one of my favorite classes – I loved the opportunity to critique pop culture with my feminist lens. That class helped me better understand how to apply my feminist perspective to something I love – like Video Games & helped set me up for a successful future in the Video Game Industry.
