Women & Girls in Georgia Conference Call for Proposals To be held in Fall 2026 Over the last 18 years the Women and Girls in Georgia conference has brought together hundreds of scholars, students, activists, and community members from across the state and region to create and fortify networks and build feminist community. In keeping with our model for 2024, the 2026 conference will be centered around a select group of grant-funded projects. We anticipate awarding up to ten grants of up to $1,000. Proposals should focus on research related to the 2026 conference theme: Security and Care. What does it mean to care? What are the conditions under which security is possible? We are interested in proposals that interpret the theme broadly, exploring a range of topics relevant to security and care for women and girls at every level: in the world, in the nation, in our institutions, in our communities, and in our individual lives. We welcome traditional as well as non-traditional forms of research, including reports from the field, performances, exhibits, and workshops. We encourage submissions that engage the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and other dimensions of identity including immigration status, neurodivergence, and disability. Proposals that include undergraduate student research may be eligible for additional funds through our Mellon Grant; if you are interested in this option, please contact Elise.Robinson@uga.edu for details. This year, through the generosity of Emerita Professor Dr. Pat Bell Scott, we are pleased to be able to fund up to two graduate student projects that center Black Women’s Studies in their approach to the theme. Possible topics include: ~ Community Care Networks ~ Sovereignty ~ Systems of Mutual Aid ~ Reproductive Justice ~ Queer/Trans/Nonbinary Persistence ~ Abolition v National Security ~ Environmental Crisis/Survival ~ Food Security ~ Economic Justice ~ War, Displacement, & Genocide ~ Solidarity & Allyship ~ Cyber Security ~ Strategies for Community Building ~ Immigrants and Refugees ~ Ending Violence ~ Collective Memory and Intergenerational Knowledge ~ Radical Hope ~ Health and Well-Being ~ Joyful Resistance ~ All awardees will be expected to attend and present at the Fall 2026 conference. The conference will be open to the public, highlighting the interdisciplinary feminist research carried out by awardees. The conference will provide opportunities for collaborative and supportive conversation, networking, building bridges, and linking theory and analysis to practice. Eligibility: Grad students and core and affiliate faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies programs from UGA and other schools in Georgia. All applicants will be expected to substantiate their association with women’s and gender studies.
