Marketing Specialist at Duck Creek Technologies HOW WERE YOU AFFILIATED WITH WGS? Women's and Gender Studies Major Tell us about your current work (paid or unpaid!) I'm currently the Marketing Specialist at Duck Creek Technologies! I work on our events and email marketing, as well as some ad-hoc marketing projects along the way. For unpaid, I volunteer at a couple of local shelters. How has your Women's and Gender Studies experience shaped your life and work post-graduation? My Women's and Gender Studies experience has been fundamental to how I navigate the world. It's led me to a variety of communities that have helped me through hard times after graduation. It's a field that's always growing and has opened me up to a whole slew of resources and libraries that help me continue my learning to this day. It has 100% shaped my career in marketing. My Women's and Gender Studies degree adds value to my resume; I've been told by numerous interviewers and recruiters that they look at it as a sign of worldliness, and forward/critical thinking that's always highly sought out in this field. What are your favorite memories from your time in Women's and Gender Studies at UGA? Courses, professors, events? My favorite memory was all of my time spent in Dr. Ray's classes. When I think of Women's and Gender Studies, it's almost synonymous with Dr. Ray. Her classes were so fun and so interesting. One of the multiple courses I took with her was all about Alice Walker; I reference that class and those readings to people to this day! I have nothing but fond memories of being one of her students. Any advice for current Women's and Gender Studies students (graduate or undergraduate)? My advice is to lean into your resources as much as you can. Save your PDFs and books, and start building that library. Spend as much time as you can in the Women's and Gender Studies library. Connect with your professors and don't be scared to be open with them. Try integrating your learnings into your other classes and into your everyday activities; you'll be surprised how forging these mental connections makes you an all-around better person.
