Veterinarian at Briarlake Animal Hospital

How were you affiliated with WGS?

Undergraduate Certificate in Women's and Gender Studies.

Tell us about your current work (paid or unpaid!)
I am a Veterinarian focusing on small animal medicine and surgery.

How has your Women's and Gender Studies experience shaped your life and work post-graduation?
It totally changed my worldview and my self-view. Even though I do not work in activism or academia, I am a constant advocate of feminism and personal choice about gender. I am so grateful for this program and loved every class, reading, and discussion. I enjoyed it more than my actual major. It helped me grow into a more confident and self-realized person. It taught me critical thinking.

What are your favorite memories from your time in Women's and Gender Studies at UGA? Courses, professors, events?
WS 412 with Patty Gowaty - it blew my mind. Also, reading from voices very different than my own that I would not have chosen otherwise. I still have a shelf of books from my certificate program.

Any advice for current Women's and Gender Studies students (graduate or undergraduate)?
It is hard work but hang in there it is life-changing stuff.
